JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the Chief Pilot the Asst. Chief Pilot is responsible for assisting in
the management of flight, pilot, dispatch and maintenance coordination. This position will have
operational control of the SJU flight operations.

 

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
The following are essential job accountabilities:
1. Line pilot – perform the duties of a Captain or First Officer as required;
2. Line pilot – coverage of PR vacation and sick calls to the full extent possible;
3. Cooperate regularly and closely with managers and employees of Air Cargo Carriers, LLC and other companies and organizations to ensure safe, legal, efficient, uninterrupted service to and from the SJU and BQN bases.
4. Time clock approval of all Puerto Rico based pilots;
5. Keep the Chief Pilot fully informed of the operational status of the SJU station. Consult with the Chief pilot regarding abnormal issues or challenges that arise.
6. Ensure timely updating and resupply of all charts, documents, and materials necessary to safe, legal, efficient flight operations.
7. Communicate regularly with Dispatch in order to coordinate pilot scheduling and the movement of aircraft for maintenance and operational purposes.
8. Remain aware of the needs and concerns of the SJU maintenance staff through regular interface with the lead mechanic.
9. Coordinate the efficient and timely “swapping” of aircraft.
10. Act as a role model by maintaining high standards of safety, professional and personal behavior, and by exhibiting a mature, positive, “can-do” attitude.
11. Exercise sound judgment, maturity and a command of the FARs and Company policies and procedures to provide ongoing work direction and guidance to ACC pilots.
12. Ensure completion of monthly customer audits.
13. Provide orientation to newly-assigned pilots to assist with rapid integration into the SJU base, its culture and flight operations.
14. Participate in the drafting, review, and implementation of SOPs and Company policies and procedures, particularly those unique to SJU operations.
15. Ensure the ongoing, open flow of verbal, written and electronic communication between line pilots and management, particularly in the areas of safety and standardization.
16. Efficiently and conscientiously administer the concerns, suggestions, and questions of line pilots.
17. Perform other duties as assigned.
18. Update Scheduled route on time reliability (delays) reports on a weekly basis and provide information to the Chief Pilot, Director of Operations and Director of Maintenance.
19. Assist Chief Pilot with pilot performance and regulatory issues.
20. Audit each aircraft in SJU for all required operational items.
21. Conduct quarterly line checks and report written results to Chief Pilot, Director of Operations and Director of Maintenance.
22. Obtain qualification as ACC instructor on the SD3 and/or C208.
23. Obtain qualification as a company check airman on the SD3 and/or C208.
24. Assign and coordinate with dispatch the SJU bid schedule for both PIC and SIC. Any reasonable duty assigned by the Chief Pilot to assist with safe everyday running of the flight department and procurement of new business. In addition, any duty required of the Chief Pilot in his absence through the Chief Pilot ultimately retains responsibility.

Education Requirements

Minimum Education: High School diploma.
Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Certifications/Licenses: Airline Transport pilot license, commercial single, instrument, land 1st class FAA medical certificate

Experience Requirements

Minimum Experience:

Three years of experience PIC in large turboprop or jet
Minimum/2000 Hours Flight Experience
Minimum/1000 Hours Part 135 Flight Experience

Preferred Experience:

Five years of experience PIC in large turboprop or jet
Minimum/2500 Hours Flight Experience
Minimum/1500 Hours Part 135 Flight Experience
Previous airline management experience
