Avionics Technician
Description
JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the Director of Maintenance, the Avionics Technician is responsible for the maintenance on aircraft avionics components and electrical systems components, such as, airborne navigation/communication systems, weather radar, autopilot, compass systems, and accessories in accordance with manufacturer specifications and FAA guidelines.
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
The following are essential job accountabilities:
Inspect new, repaired, or modified aircraft to identify damage or defects and to assess airworthiness and conformance to standards, using checklists, hand tools and test instruments.
Set up and operate ground support and test equipment to perform functional flight tests of electrical and electronic systems.
Test and troubleshoot instruments, components, and assemblies, using circuit testers, oscilloscopes, or voltmeters.
Install, adjust, repair or replace electrical and electronic components, assemblies, and systems in aircraft, using hand tools.
Prepare and maintain detailed repair, inspection, investigation and certification records and reports.
Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for parts and equipment.
Assist with building and equipment maintenance.
Education Requirements
Minimum Education:
High School diploma or equivalent
Preferred Education:
One to two years technical college/training or equivalent
Certifications/Licenses:
A&P License Required.
Experience Requirements
Minimum Experience:
Up to three years of experience
Preferred Experience:
Up to six years of experience
Qualifications
Skills:
Interpret drawings, specifications and schematics of aircraft parts/components
Skilled in the use of standard mechanical and electrical instruments and gauges
Dexterity and preciseness
Machine Skills:
Operate hand and power tools
Calculator, PC, telephone, fax machine
Physical Demands:
Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
Ability to work in tight cramped areas within aircraft
Kneeling, sitting, crouching for extended periods of time
Physical Strength:
Ability to lift 50 lbs
